A New Way to Access Great Photography Advice: The dPS Pinterest Account
Today I’m excited to launch a brand new dPS web presence – our very own dPS Pinterest Account.
Pinterest is a social media site that has been gaining a lot of momentum over the last year or so and we know a lot of our readers are active ‘Pinners’ because we see a lot of you sharing dPS articles on your own Pinterest accounts.
If you’re not familiar with it – Pinterest is a way for you to organise and share the great things you find on the web. It’s also a great way to discover great that others are sharing. If you don’t yet have an account – you can get one here. and click the ‘Join Pinterest’ button at the top of the page.
So over the last week we’ve decided to join Pinterest and have been working hard to develop a series of photographically related ‘boards’ that we think you’ll really enjoy.
So far we’ve set up 38 ‘boards’ on different aspects of photography where we’ll be sharing the best photography related content from around the web. We’ve already shared over 400 great links on a range of topics including:
- Posing
- Lighting
- Portraiture
- Weddings
- Photographing Children
- Sunrises and Sunsets
- Bokeh
- Natural Light
- Lightroom
- Much much more
We’ve Only Just Begun and We Want to Involve You
This is only the beginning. We’ll be sharing a lot more links on a daily basis. These boards are your boards and we’d love to have your involvement in a number of ways.
- if there’s a topic you’d like to see us develop a board for – please suggest it in comments below.
- if you have a photography board of your own please let us know about it in comments below – we’ll be following as many as we can and ‘repining’ the best of the best from our community.
- in future we’d love to start some community boards where we let dPS readers pin content to our account. Stay tuned for more on this.
Thanks to everyone who already is following the dPS and to those who’ve been sharing dPS content for a year or more already. We greatly appreciate it and look forward to interacting with you more on Pinterest.
Don’t forget to follow the dPS Pinterest Account here.

I’ve heard quite a few photographers mention Pinterest and how it is “stealing” their images from their blogs and sites. Anybody have any insight on this issue?
I’ve not used Pinterest myself, so I really don’t know much about the actual usage of it. I started an account, but didn’t really move on from there as 99% of my fellow “Pinners” were only pinning recipes and fashion stuff… Thar was a long time ago, so maybe it has evolved?

Welcome to Pinterest! I love this service and use it all the time. I use Pinterest not only as an inspiration tool, but mainly as a visual notebook, where I pin everything that might be worth remembering. My favourite websites, photographers, tutorials, ideas, everything is pinned there. I don’t see how it could be “stealing” photos as every image pinned is actually a link to the original content.

Darren,
I’ve collected a slew of awesome photo pins on my account at http://www.pinterest.com/inspireexhibit
Repin them so everyone can see some amazing images.

Yes, it has been a problem, which raises concern for placing watermarks on images more than ever. Thankfully, more times than not I see the proper photographers getting credit. Myself included.

I’m new to Pinterest myself, and I’m using it as sort of a learning tool.. basically I periodically scroll through the Photography category and stop at any shot that catches my eye. Then I try to decide what exactly caught my eye about that photo – was it complimentary colors or interesting light, creative composition or high contrast? Based on what I decide I pin it to a board that I’ve set up for each item, so that hopefully in the future when I want to work on improving my _____ (lighting, composition, etc) I’ll have a starting place with great examples for each item. This is how I use Pinterest, but I really like that it’s just a blank canvas to use however you like!

I’m new to Pinterest too and have really enjoyed it. I use it somewhat similarly, by pinning images that catch my eye into categories like color, light, DoF, etc so that when I want to work on one of those items in the future I’ve got a starting point. But I like that it’s an interface that you can use however you like!

for me, the best thing about pinterest is you can follow very niche subjects, so that everything that comes up on the main page is something you’ll find interesting. it is a great place to find inspiration for photography.
here’s my profile page, including my photos board:

I’ve fairly recently also started using Pinterest. As I’m currently doing a photo a day project and have been for the last couple of years, I’m trying to find other ’365 project’ photographers. The few I’ve found so far are here: http://pinterest.com/jenseeya/365-project/

This is an awesome idea! What a great way to collect the best of the web and share it with your audience (why didn’t I think of this).
I’ve been pining the photographs and tutorials of my own site to http://pinterest.com/johndavenport/phogropathy-com/ however I’m not extremely active there.
One of my favorite boards to follow is
http://pinterest.com/farbspiel/best-of-pinterest-photographers/
Which is a collection of many of the awesome photographers on pinterest. I’ve pinned a few of my own photos there, but simply love to browse through and see what people are shooting – great place for inspiration.
Anyways – Keep up the great work!

I have the man cave pinterest site.
I post a lot of my stuff here http://pinterest.com/jnealg/photography/
I have boards on photo tips, photos I like among other things. I like it better than G+ for simply looking at photography. it just works better. Repin my shots if you like!

Keep in mind that “pinning” work you have no permission or rights to, is a violation of copyright and Pinterest terms of service.
