11 Days Left in Our Photography Competition [Win a DSLR]
This is just a quick reminder that this month’s photo competition has only 11 days left in it!
You can put yourself in the running to win a DSLR, great little Canon Point and Shoot camera or a wonderful Crumpler bag simply by submitting your best portrait photo to our competition here.
So far just over 1000 images have been submitted and there are some great shots among them. Once you’ve submitted yours don’t forget to look through what else has been entered and vote for your favorites.

Well worth signing up for, the number of entries isn’t that high so the chances of winning are pretty good, if you’ve a good portrait shot to submit.
This is my entry – not expecting to win with it, but taking part does give you that warm inner glow!

Is there a problem with new users using a gmail long email address?
IE myemail+phototrade@gmail.com
I have used this type of email address and was sent the confirmation email, but when I select it nothing happens. Still cant log on and have been waiting a week or more for a reply from them?
Any other suggestions as I cant enter the competition…

I submitted mine just about 10 minutes ago! Just wanting some exposure to my works, so I thought why not give it a try? :) My entry can be found at http://www.photrade.com/singlePhoto.php?photo_id=241394&group_id=217 :)

I tried to vote, but each time got an error message and was told to try again later. With so many photos to look through, trying again later isn’t an option. Perhaps they should look at how the voting works. Something else that was a little off putting was that if I commented on a photo in the competition, clicking on ‘next’ takes me into their albums instead of to the next competition photo. The whole experience left me a little less than impressed with Photrade, though I do understand they’re still in Beta.
Good luck to all the entrants!

Hi Guys
We are experiencing some server/data base issues today… our servers were down for a bit today and we have some corruption in some of the data from yesterday. Our tech team is working to restore the data, and I will provide an update ASAP with the status.
I apologize for the inconvenience and we are doing everything we can to get this resolved ASAP. Thanks for your patience and we’ll let you know the status as soon as we get this fixed.

@ xTexAnne – The validation email should be sent to you almost immediately. If you send an email to info at photrade dot com we can take a look at whether or not you are in the system and try to get your account set up.

I submitted my entry today, but later I had second thoughts because I realized that a) there were no terms of usage in the instructions, so I don’t know if the image will be used for anything other than the contest, and b) I’m very suspicious once I realized the website Photo Trader was all about buying or trading photos.
I’m concerned that I may have unwittingly just put my photo up for sale or trade, and I do not wish to do so (nor do I have a model release). I’ll see if any helpful replies trickle in, or else will remove my entry soon.
(BTW, entry rules would have been more helpful is some file size & resolution requirements were indicated)

Guys.. help me out. And I do realize how arrogant I’m about to sound… :/
The word “portrait”.. does that include a close up shot of a flower? I asked a gentleman who entered a flower shot into the competition if it was a mistake and he replied: “Any picture can be put in a frame. It all depends on a persons style and intress there for Every picture is a portrait.”
Really? I mean really? Anything that can be put in a frame can be called a portrait??
And the kicker is, he’s currently in the top 25. Is that a damning fact against Phototrade users who’ll click on anything that has a “oooh pretty” factor or on me for being narrow minded? It’s a nice enough photo of a flower, but is it a portrait worthy of top 25 placement among the many good portraits there?
Strangely, the National Portrait Gallery doesn’t have a single photo I know of that is OF a flower.
I guess this photo (http://www.photrade.com/singlePhoto.php?photo_id=228506&group_id=217) is a better portrait than (http://www.photrade.com/singlePhoto.php?photo_id=245227&group_id=217) or (http://www.photrade.com/singlePhoto.php?photo_id=187044&group_id=217) or (http://www.photrade.com/singlePhoto.php?photo_id=205825&group_id=217) ??
I just hope that the panel decision has a lot more weight than member votes.
Anyway, off to bed..
Mr. Narrow-minded arrogant stickler for definitions ;)

Steven Erat : Participants must be the photographer of the image and have ownership of the copyright of it. Winners will be published on the Digital Photography School Blog so in entering you agree for the image to be republished in this way….That’s pretty much it – we’re not here to rip you off / take your photo. It will be published on sites DPS / Photrade obviously.. Hope this helps.
Al : The theme of this competition is ‘portraits’. We’ve kept this first competition to be fairly general in topic so as to be accessible to all. To be considered for a prize your photo needs to fit within this wide theme….Again, pretty simple… When people say portraits to me, I interpret it as a portrait of a person, but you can take it as you will.
Stickler away :) We all interpret things differently.
Best,
Sime
